Join us on our social networking groups!

Social networking focuses on building online communities of people who share common interests and/or activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others. This growing phenomenon is a new way to communicate and share information. Social networking websites are being used regularly by millions of people, so please join our climate change groups on Facebook, Bebo and Twitter to support our change initiative.

Our Facebook group Climate Change - Know your Number is a great way to meet people who share similar interests on climate change and would like to voice their opinion on this very important subject. With facebook you can instant message each other, upload videos and photos, while also leaving a comment on the wall.

Don't forget to join our Earth Hour 2009 event that is happening on the 28th March. This is a Worldwide event that encourages everyone to turn off all their non- essential light and electrical appliances for one hour on the 28th March, 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

Our Twitter group Change_ie allows you to send and read other user's updates who have decided to follow you on Twitter. These are web based posts of up to 140 characters in length. You can send updates via twitter website, sms and rss feeds. It is a quick and easy way to keep in touch with people who are interested in climate change and global warming.

Our Bebo group is Know your Number. Bebo is very similar to other social networking groups, and tends to fall into the hands of the younger generation. There are many ways of communicating through this network via blogs, comments, videos and photos.

We would love to hear your comments or queries, so please join up and let the change team know!

KNOW YOUR NUMBER ROADSHOW

Shoppers around the country will be given the opportunity to ‘Know Your Number’ at the ‘Know Your Number’ Roadshow, as part of ‘Change’, the Government’s national climate change awareness campaign

Shoppers can calculate their carbon number with the help of the team and learn about how their daily activities are having an impact on climate change.  Expert members of the ‘Change’ team will also be available to answer any questions about climate change and give out tips and advice on how consumers can lead more sustainable and environmentally-friendly lives. An information stand will be in place at the store as well as two booths equipped with remote access laptop computers, to help shoppers calculate their carbon number and find out ways to reduce it.

‘Know Your Number’ Roadshow allows consumers to learn and engage with the issue of climate change at a time convenient for them. Shoppers can come and meet with members of the ‘Change’ team and ask about anything they don’t understand. Even the action of shopping can teach us a lot about how we live our lives. Simple things such as buying locally grown food where possible, choosing products with the least amount of packaging and energy efficient products e.g. low energy light bulbs, can all help to reduce your impact on climate change”, says Lorraine Fitzgerald, ‘Change’ spokesperson. ‘‘Customers can learn how to behave more responsibly and adopt these new practices in other areas of their lives’’. Check out the weekly blogs for updates on how the Change Team are getting on.

Power of One Street 2

Last year on the Power of one Street we witnessed eight families embark on an “energy makeover” where they learnt how to eat, sleep and live energy efficiency. All eight families made remarkable savings not only to their bank accounts but also for the environment.

This year, in phase two of the Power of One Street, you will witness not only five more families across Ireland transform into energy champions but two businesses and one School.

Take a look at how each family, business and School brought the Power of One into their domain, illustrating that not only does the Power of One ethos work in the home but also at work and in Schools.
